【Abstract】Based on evaluation of efficacy of religious exchange in China’s construction of relations with its neighboring countries, it can be found that “religious factors” are both historical impetus for the construction of friendly relations between China and countries along the Silk Road and realistic drive for deepening of partnership between China and its neighboring countries. The quantitative analysis shows that “religious factors” act not only as a historical variable, but as a realistic variable in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. Distribution of religious population of countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative (the “B&R”) exerts a real influence on the basic religious pattern of China’s neighboring countries. In particular, the “separation from the Middle East” tendency for development of Islam sharply increases the possibility of impact of religious extremism on the “B&R.” Measures and suggestions of the new thought of incorporating religious exchange into the management of China’s relations with its neighboring countries to make a contribution to “industriously and promisingly implementing (China’s) neighborhood diplomacy” aim to highlight that the transformation of religious resources to diplomatic resources indeed manifests strategic effect of the optimization of soft environment of the “B&R.”
