Compassion in the workplace: a multilevel dynamic integration model

【Abstract】This article constructs a multilevel dynamic integration model of compassion in workplace. This model believes that individual compassion process and collective workplace compassion process workplace have a “two-way interaction” relationship under the effects of compassion enabling characteristics, individual compassion process can come forth as collective compassion process, and collective compassion process can also promote the development of individual compassion process. Collective compassion process is a dynamic ability, which can help enterprises gain a continuous competitive advantage. Under the scenario of already formed collective compassion ability or strong compassion enabling characteristics, the total amount and possibilities of previously experienced suffering can affect the organization’s current collective compassion ability. This model can explain and predict the different feedbacks and effects of suffering in workplace. This research not only compiled the research literature on compassion in workplace, but also responded to the call to focus on humanity and “socially responsible scholarship” of organizational research.
