Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the fresh leaves of Castanopsis tibetana. Methods: The chemical constituents of ethanol extract from the fresh leaves of C. tibetana were studied by column chromatography, such as Sephadex LH-20, MCI gel CHP 20 P, Toyopearl HW-40 F and Toyoperal Butyl-650 C. Results: Thirteen compounds were isolated and purified and identified as gallic acid (1), methyl gallate (2), ethyl gallate (3), a mixture of m- and p-dimeric galloyl methyl ester (4), a mixture of m- and p-dimeric galloyl ethyl ester (5), 5- O-galacyl-methyl quinine ester (6), 5- O-galloyl-shikimic acid (7), 3- O-galloyl-shikimic acid (8), 3,4-di- O-galloyl-shikimic acid (9), 3,5-di- O-galloyl-shikimic acid (10), 1,6-di- O-galloyl- β- D-glucose (11), 1,2,6-tri- O-galloyl- β- D-glucose (12), 5- O-galloylhamamelose (13) by NMR, mass spectrometry and other spectral data. Conclusion: All compounds are isolated from C. tibetana for the first time.
