Impact of business ties and innovative ties on innovation performance: empirical analysis based on social capital theory

Based on social capital theory, this paper conducted theoretical and empirical research on the effects of business ties and innovative ties on innovation performance, and investigated the complementary effect between business ties and innovative ties on improving innovation performance. It also explored the contingent effects of financial ties. Based on survey data on middle and senior managers of 196 firms in Beijing, it tested hypotheses by employing the method of hierarchical regression analysis. The results suggest that both business ties and innovative ties have positive and significant effects on innovation performance, business ties and innovative ties are complementary in promoting innovation performance, and financial ties have significantly positive moderating effects on the relationships between business ties and innovation performance and between innovative ties and innovation performance.
