Grazing is the main way of human disturbance in grasslands, which directly changes the vegetation community structure and affects locust density . Grassland productivity is the basis to measure the rational utilization of grasslands, and vegetation coverage is one of the important indexes to measure grassland productivity.

What's the relationship between different grazing densities and locust population?

The effect of different grazing intensities on hyperspectral remote sensing and locust abundance in typical steppe by MA Jingchuan et al., established models for relationships between hyperspectral remote sensing data and vegetation biomass and locust population, which provided basis for predicting the damage to vegetation and locust occurrence under different grazing densities, and further provided support for scientific utilization of grassland resources and sustainable development of animal husbandry.

The result reveals that, grazing disturbance affects the vegetation community structure in a complex way and causes changes in vegetation coverage, biomass, species types, etc. With the increase of grazing intensity, the total above-ground biomass of vegetation showed a downward trend. vegetation structures, especially plant heights, have important effects on insects. Meanwhile, plants provide food resources for locusts, reflecting the bottom-up effect
