The social transformation in China has triggered a large-scale population migration, which leads to the continuous emergence of abnormal floating families. Most of the male and female floating groups are sexually active. Their regional mobility is strong. Their job changes are frequent. The bondage of private life is reduced, and their ideological concepts are constantly changing. All of these tends can make their marriage structures unbalanced. Therefore, extramarital sexual issues of the male and women floating population in China have attracted widespread attention from the government and all walks of life.

Tolerance of the floating population towards the extramarital sexual behavior and its influencing factors published on Population Journal by CHEN Tingting, based on the data of Chinese Central Social Survey in 2013, and empirically analyzes and explains the influencing factors and gender differences in the male and female population’s tolerance towards extramarital sexual behavior.

The results reveal that, the attitude of the floating population towards extramarital sexual behavior is more open than that of non-floating population. The female population’s tolerance towards extramarital sexual behavior is higher than that of the male floating population, that is, female migrants’ attitude towards extramarital sexual behavior is more tolerant. By comparing the influencing factors of the male and female floating population’s tolerance towards extramarital sexual behavior, we can find that most of the indicators have no significant gender difference in the effect on the floating population’s tolerance towards extramarital sexual behavior. years of education and the number of children have a greater influence on the female floating population’s tolerance towards extramarital sexual behavior.

From the perspective of those people who hold traditional sexual concepts, only sexual behavior within marriage is moral, and all extramarital sexual behavior is wrong. However, with the development of China’s society and economy, the social systems and norms concerning marriage, family, and sexuality have undergone changes. The relationship between the two genders has continued to open, and extramarital sexual behavior has continued to intensify and show a trend of expansion. The evaluation of extramarital sexual behavior has also become increasingly objective in society. People no longer simply judge extramarital sexual behavior as a kind of crime. Instead, they tend to attribute it to multiple factors such as conflict between husband and wife and disharmony of sexual life. The phenomenon of extramarital sexual behavior in the floating population is also due to a variety of subjective and objective reasons, such as the absence of spouses and families, and poor quality of marriage. But in any case, extramarital sexual behavior will bring certain degrees of harm to the spouse. Therefore, in theory, although extenuating extramarital sexual behavior does exist, it should be discouraged and avoided to the greatest extent.
