The influence of education on facial attractiveness

Based on the baseline data of the China Family Panel Studies in 2010, the study explores the influence of education years on facial attractiveness and its mechanism.
基于2010年“中国家庭追踪调查“的基线调查数据, 本研究检验了教育年限对容貌吸引力的影响及其发生机制。
The study finds that years of education have a positive effect on facial attractiveness through channel variables, such as income, occupation, leisure life, and bad habits. Education has a positive impact on income, occupation and leisure life, and a negative impact on bad habits.
研究发现, 教育年限对容貌吸引力有正向影响;教育通过渠道变量对容貌吸引力产生作用, 收入、职业、休闲生活、不良嗜好是教育影响容貌吸引力的主要渠道变量;教育对收入、职业、休闲生活有正向影响, 对不良嗜好有负向影响。
The study also shows that the most important channels for education to affect facial attractiveness are occupation and leisure life, and explains the theory of constrains and efficiency theory that explains the impact of education on facial attractiveness.
研究发现了教育影响容貌吸引力的最重要渠道为职业和休闲生活, 验证了解释教育对容貌吸引力发生影响的资源约束理论和效率理论的作用机制。

    ① CFPS 2010 data are a survey conducted by CFPS group of Peking University in cooperation with universities nationwide. The interviewers are mainly senior college students and graduate students, with similar age, values and educational background. All the interviewers were trained before the survey. According to the CFPS questionnaire and the survey manual, the explanation part of the question was mainly to score objectively according to their facial features. Interviewers’ scores are consistent, so the influence of age and education level can be effectively controlled.
